The ‘Upcycle at Emmaus Leeds’ dinner will take place on Sunday, May 21, at the Emmaus Leeds Café on St Mary’s Street, close to West Yorkshire Playhouse.

The dinner will include a three course meal in upcycled surroundings and talks from inspirational speakers who are turning waste into opportunities.

Emmaus Leeds has joined the Leeds Indie Food Festival programme for the first time and their dinner promises to be thought provoking and inspiring in equal measure. Last year alone the charity reduced their food bill by £10,000 by making simple changes to the way they view, source and use food.

Leeds Indie Food Festival will take place between Thursday 11 and Sunday 28 May 2017.

The festival aims to create awareness of Leeds as a food destination and celebrate independent food and drink establishments across the city.

Joanne Stafford, projects & events leader at Emmaus Leeds, said: “Here at Emmaus Leeds we cook and eat together every single day and as part of Leeds Indie Food Festival we want to extend the invitation out to inquisitive minds searching for an inspiring dining experience.

“If you have an interest in food waste, upcycling furniture or other waste items and want to find out how you can make a positive change in your life and save money, or if you just want to enjoy a delicious meal and hear some amazing stories, this is the event for you.”

Emmaus Leeds supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it. Emmaus was founded on the idea that people do not need handouts, they simply need the tools to be able to help themselves and help others.

Tickets for the ‘Upcycle at Emmaus Leeds’ dinner will be available from the Leeds Indie Food Festival website at: http://leedsindiefood.co.uk/

Festival passport holders will receive a discount on the dinner event and a 10% discount off food in Emmaus Leeds Café during festival period.
