Heritage mill site becomes quirky apartments

New Street Mills was built by 1871 by the Pudsey Worsted Mill Company for specialist weaving, and by 1911 was a loom and power factory with eight occupants.

The derelict building, which has now been transformed into a residential development, orginally consisted of a three-storey warehouse, weaving shed, engine house and boiler room.

A show apartment at the Carlisle Road site will be on show to potential buyers and investors for the first time on Saturday December 3.

When finished, the mill will become 12 two-bedrooom properties with parking and original features.

Nathan Hemming, director at developer V1sion Properties Ltd, said:

“We feel honoured to have the opportunity to preserve a small piece of the town’s history and in doing so create an exciting new chapter for the building as a stylish and contemporary place to live.”

New Street Mills is located near the Cenotaph and other local amenties, including the park.

Local estate agents Manning Stainton welcomed the addition to the area’s housing stock, and confirmed they are currently experiencing strong demand from first-time buyers and young professionals.
