Half term fun awaits Leeds youngsters

Youngsters can try their hand at DJ-ing as part of an array of activities during the half term holiday.

Leeds City Museum will host a day of DJ skills on February 18 when DJ School UK will take over Broderick Hall for free workshops on DJ-ing, offering hands on opportunities for young people to use equipment and mix tracks.

The sessions are part of a week of events featuring music, history, science, nature and arts and crafts at Leeds Museums and Galleries.

Councillor Brian Selby, Leeds City Council’s lead member for museums and galleries, said: “There are some really exciting and fun activities happening at our museums and galleries over the half term and I’m sure there’s plenty to keep youngsters entertained.

“It’s also a great chance to introduce them to some of the city’s history and hopefully inspire them to want to visit us again in future.”

Thwaite Mills Watermill, due to reopen on January 23 after being damaged in the recent floods, will hold workshops themed around science and nature with drop-in sessions on February 17 and 18.

Lotherton Hall will celebrate all things feathered during its Love Birds week from February 14 to 21, featuring bird-themed crafts and activities.

Visitors to Temple Newsam can enjoy a week of love-related tours and crafts starting on February 13 and 14 and then continuing from February 16 to 21.

Abbey House Museum will hold events based on its upcoming Crime and Punishment exhibition while Kirkstall Abbey’s Little Crackers session on February 16 will help under fives celebrate Chinese New Year. DJ School UK will also host a free event with The Grammar School at Leeds including face-painting, workshops and activities on February 19.
