Gjanni Alioski provides second Leeds United 'assist' of Euros but North Macedonia evening turns sour
GJANNI Alioski became the second Leeds United player to set up a goal at Euro 2020 but still saw his North Macedonia side beaten by Austria in their Group C opener.
Whites left back Alioski sent over a crossfield pass that Austria made a hash of clearing and the ball fell to Goran Pandev who converted in the 28th minute to put North Macedonia level at 1-1 during Sunday's clash in Bucharest.
Stefan Larner had put Austria in front in the 18th minute but the Austrians regained the lead 12 minutes from time through Michael Gregoritsch and then bagged a third in the 89th minute through Marko Arnautovic to seal a 3-1 triumph.
After a late challenge, Alioski was booked in the contest which came on the back of England's 1-0 win against Croatia at Wembley in which Whites midfielder Kalvin Phillips set up the only goal of the game for Raheem Sterling.
