Giver Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds a boost for Mother's Day

‘Walk for Wheatfields’ is a new event taking place on Saturday March 10 as part of the hospice’s Mother’s Day campaign to raise enough funds to cover the cost of running of its care services for one day.

Organisers hope supporters across Leeds will make Mother’s Day a whole weekend celebration and sign up for the five-mile walk in north Leeds to help give Wheatfields a vital cash boost.

Each year the hospice needs to raise over £2.2m in donations to continue providing its specialist care services.

Peter Watson, senior community fundraiser at the Wheatfields hospice, said: “We’re excited to launch a brand new event this year, our Walk for Wheatfields. Come and join us to celebrate this special occasion by walking the five miles along the Meanwood Valley trail finishing in the beautiful surroundings of Golden Acre Park. You can make the whole weekend a special celebration.

“Whether you are walking in memory of a loved one or to have fun with family and friends, it’s going to be a very special day.”

The costs involved in running the Headingley hospice includes: £18 for an hour of specialist end-of-life and palliative care; £35 for a complementary therapy session to help alleviate symptoms and £50 for a session of bereavement counselling for someone struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one.
