Fundraisers wanted for Christmas Jumper Day

Schools and workplaces are being urged to take part in Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Radio Aire's Cash for Kids charity.

Adults and children alike are being called on to don their festive woolies on December 9 in return for a £1 donation.

The day comes as part of the charity’s Mission Christmas appeal which supported more than 22,000 children last year.

The campaign, backed by the Yorkshire Evening Post, ensures that no child in West Yorkshire wakes up without a gift on Christmas Day.

And the money raised from Christmas Jumper Day will be used to purchase presents for children aged from babies to 18 years old.

This year the demand for Mission Christmas has surged to a record high, with the charity already receiving applications of support for over 15,000 children.

Festive fundraising is in more need than ever after ITV’s Text Santa campaign was cancelled by the broadcaster in aid of a year-round appeal. Lisa Sullivan, Cash for Kids Charity Manager said: “With no Text Santa this year, Christmas Jumper Day is a perfect opportunity for those wanting to take part in a festive fundraising activity to support a local cause instead. No one wants a child where we live to wake up without gifts on Christmas Day.

“This year we need your help more than ever and at the moment we are struggling and do not have enough gifts to fulfil the number applications we have received.

“So please help us bring back the magic of Christmas to thousands of children this year, we cannot do this without your help.”

People can also donate their own new and unwrapped gifts to the appeal to several collection points across the city.
