Food-lovers' Sicilian nights in Leeds

Two food-lovers who met while at university in Leeds are cashing in on an upcoming trend in the city's food market.

Rebecca Peartree and Fran Taylor turned their shared love of home and hearty vegetarian food into a business and are holding their first major event on Monday.

The Sicilian Supper Club takes over The Grub and Grog shop at Sheaf Street Cafeteria with tasty and vibrant European inspired flavours. Tapas platters on the night include courgette flowers, ricotta, mint, truffle honey; gemelli, aubergine, sultanas and capers and blood orange, ricotta, biscotti.

The girls were living in the cosmopolitan area of Montpellier in France and were enjoying a trip to Italy when they developed a taste for the many street food stalls providing tasty, alternative and well priced food. At that time there was a gap in the market for something similar in Leeds and the girls mixed it up and brought their own flavour to the city’s street food menu.

The name Golden Balls came from the tradition of turning left over risotto into riceballs with a deep fried crispy coating.

Rebecca and Fran tried a number of variations to create a signature dish which foodies can try on Monday night.
