Three fire engines rush to busy Leeds city centre street as alarm heard in Sainsbury's store
Emergency services have cordoned off part of Albion Street
A busy pedestrian thoroughfare in Leeds city centre has been cordoned off this afternoon as emergency services deal with an ongoing incident.
Fire crews have been seen outside of the Sainsbury’s store on Albion Street since around 1pm today (Monday) and have erected a safety cordon across the pavement.

The restrictions are currently concentrated around Albion Place and the busy pedestrian stretch of Albion Street, starting immediately outside the Sainsbury’s Local store.
A witness who sent the above footage said: “It looks like the Sainsbury’s store was cordoned off with firefighters at the door.
“There was a hosepipe running along the floor. I could see three fire engines with one of them in blue lights.
“It’s a busy bank holiday in Leeds city centre and there was plenty of people stopping and looking to see what happened.
“I could hear alarm going off in the store.”
The Yorkshire Evening Post has contacted the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service central press team for an official statement on the cause of the call-out. They have not yet responded for comment.
The cordon is causing minor disruption for Bank Holiday shoppers navigating between Commercial Street and the Leeds Trinity shopping centre network. Pedestrians are being advised to divert around Albion Place while emergency workers remain at the scene.
