Fifty Shades of Grey-inspired art collection goes on display in Leeds

The exhibition, which has been approved by the erotic tale’s author E L James, launches at Castle Fine Art on Albion Place on Saturday.

Fashion photographer Raphael Mazzucco has brought his unique interpretation to the global Fifty Shades phenomenon, creating four limited edition works featuring iconic phrases from the trilogy.

Each artwork has been signed by James, who was consulted throughout the collection’s development. Mazzucco, who has worked on advertising campaigns for Ralph Lauren and Victoria’s Secret, is known for his celebration of the female form, sophistication and sensuality.

James’s books have now been published in 52 countries and sold 125 million copies.

“Fifty Shades of Grey is recognised as a worldwide cultural phenomenon and its influence is felt across the globe,” said Raphael.

“My work very often includes an element of writing; often it’s words that come to me while I’m creating, sometimes song lyrics, sometimes poetry. It was therefore so natural to me to take the language of Fifty Shades of Grey and work that into these images. The process of translating the written word into a visual concept was incredibly enjoyable, and it’s so rewarding now to see the finished presentation.”

Castle Fine Art gallery manager Roy Pritchard describes the collection, which is available for sale, as ‘delicately seductive’.
