Festival salutes armed forces

Community Central Community Interest Company (CIC), a Leeds-based asset-locked not-for-profit company, will host the event on Saturday, June 24, from 10am to 6pm at Armley Moor Park on Town Street.

All the funds raised by the event will go towards supporting and creating programmes that will empower people and communities.

Aron Thomas, a Community Central CIC director, said: “We are extremely excited about the event. It is a tremendous opportunity to show support for our armed forces members and the community. We always strive to make it a memorable experience for all our visitors, and introduce Armley’s wonderful community to the rest of Leeds.”

The festival, which is free to enter, will feature attractions, games and rides for all ages including bouncy castles, electronic bull rides, a military-style assault course and a live DJ. Visitors can also enjoy a live WWE-style wrestling show. A free coach service will run from Bramley and Kirkstall.

Armley resident, Robert Helguson, said: “A connected community is a healthy community and what’s not to like with a fun family day out that has something for everyone. Developing a connected community that cares is the first step towards understanding, improving and empowering the people in it.”

Community Central CIC has been recognised for its work regarding community cohesion, reducing anti-social behaviour, supporting victims of domestic violence, working with members of the armed forces, and hosting job fairs and employability training.
