Is Facebook and Messenger down right now? Thousands report website outage on Downdetector - latest

Facebook is down for thousands of users right now 🚨

A major social media network has been hit by a massive outage this weekend.

Facebook is currently down for thousands of users, with people being greeted with a “Account Temporarily Unavailable” message when trying to open it on the web. It is not currently impacting other Meta platforms like Instagram.

Downdetector has seen a huge spike in users reporting issues with the social media giant today (July 19). The problems started to be reported around 8.30am and had spiked to over 5,000 reports just after 9am.

Hundreds of users are also reporting problems with Messenger - Facebook’s messaging app - as well as with the website. Downdetector users have flagged issues with video calls, sending messages and the app itself.

The main issue being reported is with the website, while many are also having trouble logging in to the platform. Others are also seeing trouble with the feed and timeline.

The mobile app does appear to be loading, but it was slow when this reported tried it out just after 9am.

Facebook’s current outage, which is still on-going as of 10am GMT, does not appear to be limited to just the UK. One of our readers reached out to tell us that their family in New Zealand is experiencing the same problems - so it appears to be impacting users around the world.
