Experts roll in to examine Leeds stately home's rare carpet

It has survived for more than 200 years and now a team of experts are on hand to painstakingly examine a Leeds stately home's rare carpet.

And the rare Axminster carpet, which is one of only eight in existence, takes pride of place in Harewood’s Yellow Drawing Room.

A team of textile experts from across Britain have been drafted in to inspect every inch of the carpet.

In order for the conservators to have the space to fully inspect the carpet, it had to be moved into the stately home’s Gallery. A Harewood House spokeswoman said: “The results of the final report will start to help Harewood answer important questions.”
