Duo sign off at Made In Leeds festival

One of the most historic venues in the city is set for a take over by some of dance music's most influential names in a day long festival tomorrow.

The Made In Leeds Festival will be held at Thwaite Mills for the first time with open air stages, secluded gigs in a big top underneath the trees, market stalls, cocktail bars and street food pop-ups.

It is being fronted by ‘SleepinIsCheatin’ duo Tom Zanetti and Kane Townend (K.O Kane) who will use the festival as a sign off to their Leeds fans for the summer.

In a deal that they have not yet made public they will be doing a UK tour for one of the country’s leading music promoters, SJM Concerts, meaning they will not be performing their usual club nights in the city before the tour’s Leeds date on October 21.

Kane told City Buzz: “We love doing Made In Leeds and this one will be a bit special for us as this will be the last gig in Leeds for a while.

“We can’t take bookings in the cities where we tour so after tomorrow we won’t be back in Leeds until October.

“Made In Leeds is our signature event. It was the first real gig/festival event with ‘SleepinIsCheatin’ and is really close to our heart.”

This year is also the first time that 16 year-olds are allowed, so the brands will be able to play to their young following live for the first time.

Kane and Tom (SleepinIsCheatin), will host Insomnia and DJs such as Mistajam from Radio 1 Jamie Duggan, Tom Garnett, Ma?K, Shaun Dean, Ryan James, Josh Weeks and N.O.A.H.

Bar Fibre will bring its own resident DJs to a VIP access only secret garden party with champagne and cocktails and Federation will throw a Treasure Island style bash with old pirates Marc Leaf, Tony Walker, Stuart Robinson, Greg Myers and Christian Appleby.

The Tunnel stage sees PJ Gardner, Luke Horsfield, Dave Cooper, Debbie Barwick and Kristian McEvoy and Leeds legend when it comes to club nights, DJ and promoter Dave Beer, will bring BacktoBasics back to the stage.

The man himself will take over the decks as will Mark Jenkyns, Ralph Lawson, James Holroyd, Tristan Da Cunha and Gas House Kids.

And despite being one of today’s hottest acts, Tom and Kane were keen to find out what Beer thought of them.

Kane said: “We had never met him before we started this project and didn’t know if he would accept what we do as we are the new kids on the block but he was the most down to earth guy.

“He knew about us and was inspired by what we were doing.

“Our brand SleepinisCheatin and Made In Leeds, we are home grown from Leeds and to be able to get DJs without one big headline is good and positive.

“When we lost The Tetley site we looked for something new and my friend had done something at Thwaites Mill last year. We had a drive down and were gobsmacked.

“I could not believe this was in Leeds and I had never seen it. It is so exciting and I can’t wait to see it in action.”

Doors open at 1pm until 11pm. Tickets need to be purchased in advance. Cashless bars are in operation with pre-paid wristbands and shuttle buses are running to and from the site.
