Duo champion great outdoors

a mother and daughter are championing a campaign to encourage people to enjoy the great outdoors.

Addi Man and her eight-year-old daughter Athina are among 30 people selected for Ordnance Survey’s (OS) new project to help make Great Britain a more adventurous nation and inspire others to get outside.

The duo from Horsforth, known as TeamAA, joined fellow OS GetOutside champions at an unveiling event in the New Forest with TV presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle and endurance adventurer Sean Conway.

Addi, who this year plans to canoe some of the UK’s longest lakes with Athina in their blow-up boat, said: “Children need the freedom to learn by ‘doing’ and to be given the time to discover things that they love. We are grateful for our outdoor adventures that create play opportunities and help us discover our own potential and help build happy memories. We hope to inspire other families with our heart-warming stories, to encourage them to explore the beautiful UK nature in a fun and safe way.”

The champions, chosen for their ability to communicate their love for being outside, include journalists and bloggers who write about their adventures in Britain.

OS GetOutside campaign manager, Liz Beverley, said: “The benefits of exercising and getting regular fresh air are already well documented, but more needs to be done to get that message across. By sharing the passion they feel and the fun they have being outdoors TeamAA and the other champions will help people reconnect with spending quality time outdoors.”

The champions have been given exclusive access to OS products and will take part in product trials.
