Dramatic pictures and video show scale of blaze that took ONE HUNDRED firefighters to battle in Leeds

One hundred firefighters tackled an early morning blaze at a building supplies unit in Leeds.

The incident, on Moor Road in Hunslet, occurred just before 2.30am on Sunday, July 15.

A number of properties close to the blaze had to be evacuated.

At the height of the fire, 100 firefighters were in attendance, but the incident is now being scaled down.

Nearby Middleton Railway also had one carriage 'severely damaged' in the fire. They have decided to close to the public today.

They wrote on their Facebook page: "Further to the earlier message regarding the fire on neighbouring premises overnight we can now confirm that following discussions with the fire service the railway will be closed to the public today and no trains will be operating. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment caused.

"We can confirm that one of our non-passenger carrying vehicles has suffered severe damage but the coaches are safe and we expect to be open as usual next weekend."

One aerial, eight jets, one hose reel and one breathing apparatus were involved in tackling the blaze.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: " Fire spread to a train carriage on adjacent steam railway. A number of nearby properties were evacuated due to proximity of fire. At its height approx. 100 firefighters were in attendance from across brigade area.

"Incident is now being scaled down with 3 pumps and an aerial relief attending at 8am."
