Dinosaurs on prowl in garden at Harlow Carr

VISITORS to RHS Garden Harlow Carr at Harrogate are being invited to explore the land that time forgot this summer.

The garden has a Jurassic theme with a series of displays and events being staged from Saturday July 21.

There will be giant willow sculptures including a stegosaurus, pterodactyl and diplodocus

Families can embark on a Jurassic journey around the garden on a daily garden trail and discover habitats rich in Jurassic plants like ferns and monkey puzzle trees.

Visitors will be greeted by a seven-foot-tall willow stegosaurus made by North Yorkshire-based willow sculptors from Dragon Willow.

Budding palaeontologists can dress up as explorers and take part in a fossil dig to find dinosaur teeth, bones and claws.

A ‘Jurassic Timeline’ will take visitors from the Jurassic period to the modern day - with facts and figures about the earth, plants and animals en route.

And visitors will be encouraged to take a selfie in a climb-in dinosaur egg.

There will be birds-of-prey flying displays designed to explain the link between birds and dinosaurs as well as hands-on craft activities including sourdough dinosaur bone and dinosaur egg making workshops and storytelling with the garden detectives.

Liz Thwaite, Head of RHS Garden Harlow Carr said: “Our Jurassic theme is designed to encourage families to discover, learn, grow and most of all, have fun together.

“The garden will be transformed into a Jurassic playground with willow dino sculptures and lots of opportunities to make and do. It promises to be truly roar-some.”
