Robinson who at 85 still manages to ride his bike twice a week, has had this event in his honour since 2006, since when thousands of riders have tested themselves around roads he has ridden & trained on all his life, and which in 2014 saw the world’s best cyclists as Yorkshire hosted Le Grand Depart

The 2016 event is once again based at the Huddersfield New College campus, ideally located close to the M62 for travelling riders. The college itself is no stranger to elite cycling as o a former student is the GB athlete from Holmfirth Gabriel ( Gabz) Cullaigh

The aims of the event are to encourage riders to challenge themselves for an early season ride, very much in the vein of the reliability rides Brian did himself during his career, and riders are awarded certificates dependant on the time it takes to complete the circuit and to raise money for good causes. With the latter in mind the event will be primarily supporting a very worthy cause, the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity. https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/

This year’s event , on 24th April, ( www.brcr.co.uk ) will once again feature a closed road roll out for all riders to start en masse, a fantastic spectacle as the noise of hundreds of riders fastening themselves into their pedal systems, combines with the roar of the engines of the motorcycle engines to lead the event away.

The location of the start means that there will be about 12 miles without having to make a turn as the route rolls over the first Pennine climb at Buckstones Moor before dropping into Lancashire and back into Yorkshire over Standedge.

Riders on the event are supported by motorcycle marshals from West Yorkshire Advanced Motorcyclists , mechanical & first aid should the need arise and a well stocked feed station awaits the riders at about half way

Such is the esteem in which the event is held by cycling aficionados that whilst several have travelled from Europe to take part the record for the furthest distance is held by a rider from Texas who came over for the 2014 event
