The prosecutor said the relationship quickly deteriorated and the woman went to live with her mother, leaving the defendant to stay in her home.

Sharp attacked the woman on June 7 when she returned to her home and asked him to leave.

He punched her twice to the face, causing swelling to her cheek.

The 27-year-old attacked the woman again ten days later.

Mr Henderson-Moore said she was driving her car along the Leeds Ring Road at Lower Wortley.

Sharp signalled for her to pull over because their seven-month-old son was in the vehicle.

She stopped the car and Sharp spoke to their son before becoming aggressive towards to the woman.

He demanded to know where she was going.

Sharp began shouting and screaming at the woman, causing their son to cry.

He told the victim he did not care about the child and would not support him before punching her repeatedly through the window of the car.

The prosecutor said Sharp then opened the car door, punched her four more times and grabbed her by the hair.

She managed to drive away and went to a friend's house for help.

Mr Henderson-Moore said the victim was vulnerable as she suffers from cerebral palsy and Sharp was classed as her carer at the time of the attack.

Sharp went on to inflict serious injuries in a separate attack on a neighbour.

The victim of that attack was awoken by an argument between Sharp and his partner.

Later the same day Sharp approached her and punched her in the face.

He took her mobile phone from her when she threatened to call the police and put it down a drain.

The woman suffered a badly broken jaw and has been left with a permanent disfigurement to her face.

She had to have surgery after the attack and was unable to chew food properly.

The woman had recently graduated in biomedical sciences at the time and was awaiting responses to job applications which may have been affected by the loss of her phone.

"He says he just saw red when he started arguing with his partner.

"He knows he has to address his issues and stop this cycle of offending."

Sharp was jailed for two years.

Judge Christopher Batty said: "You are 27 years of age and you clearly have an issue with your temper and the use of violence, particularly in relation to women.

"She has got cerebral palsy. She is the mother of your child.

"And yet you think it is alright to punch her in the face.

"I have seen the photographs (of her injuries). She just looks broken."
