'You are risking death': Police warning as groups seen diving into south Leeds canal

Police have issued a warning on the dangers of deep water after people were spotted diving into a canal in south Leeds.

Officers were called to Lemonroyd Lock, near Woodlesford, on Wednesday after they received reports of groups in the canal.

They dispersed a group of youths by the canal and recovered a pushbike at the scene.

Leeds South Neighborhood Policing Team posted a warning on Facebook urging people to stay away from deep water.

The post read: "We have attended reports already of groups diving into the canal at Lemonroyd Locks.

"You cannot see what is under the surface or how deep it is - you are risking significant injury and potentially death.

"Please keep out of the water - it is not safe. The area is not staffed or monitored constantly."
