'You are never going to walk again': 'Evil' boyfriend stamped on his girlfriend's feet and broke her nose during abusive relationship

Scott Murray also broke his partner's nose during the assault at their home in Leeds as part of a campaign of humiliating violence against her.

The 28-year-old was locked up for 40 months after pleading guilty to assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in a relationship.

Leeds Crown Court heard Murray constantly belittled the young woman and subjected her to violence during the "toxic" relationship.

Murray threatened his partner with a machete, bit her face and spat at her.

He would often take her phone from her to check messages and destroyed a number of devices which she owned.

Murray's response was rip the victim's underwear, headbutt her then throw her outside without any shoes.

He forced the victim to get a shower fully clothed to clean blood from her face before police arrived at the property.

Mr Dunn said Murray would become angry with the victim if she wore too much make up.

He took her passport and used it to "hold her to ransom" as she needed it to apply for work.

Murray forced the victim to comply with his demands before returning the document.

The court heard Murray carried out a brutal attack on the woman in May 2019 after he returned home from his local working men's club.

Murray turned violent when she challenged him about the length of time he had spent at the club.

The defendant stamped on her feet 20 times while he was wearing trainers and told her she would never walk again.

He then dragged her by the hair and told her to go get his washing off the line outside.

Mr Dunn said: "He punched her in the nose and as he did so she heard her nose crack.

"He then smashed her phone.

"That is a hallmark of how he often behaved towards her."

Murray then locked the woman in the bathroom.

Later that day he took her to Leeds General Infirmary where she lied to staff about how she had suffered the injuries, claiming she had fallen in a hot tub.

Murray, of Mardale Crescent, Seacroft, carried out the offending over a two-year period between January 2018 and January 2020.

Murray has a previous conviction for battery of a former partner in 2014 and a caution from the same year after he punched a former partner in the face.

Matthew Harding, mitigating, said Murray hoped to receive help to address his offending while in custody.

Sentencing, Judge Simon Phillips QC said Murray had subjected his partner to violence and "constant belittling."

He said: "You became controlling and abusive towards her to the extent and degree of what is called trauma bonding, as described by the prosecution."

"The stress you caused her was profound."

The judge said Murray's victim's mother gave a statement to police, adding: "She described you as a controlling and manipulative evil man who has caused so much distress to her daughter, to her and her whole family."

Murray was also made the subject of an indefinite restraining order banning him from contacting the victim.
