Woman with 'one of the worst shoplifting records' judge has seen is banned from Wakefield

A judge has jailed a prolific shoplifter with more than 140 offences to her name, and banned her from a city centre and long list of shops.

Jadine Riley stole items totalling more than £1,600 during her latest spree, in which she brazenly walked into stores and simply left with unpaid goods.

She was already on a criminal behaviour order (CBO) in an effort to curb her crimes.

The 38-year-old, of no fixed address, appeared at Leeds Crown Court where she admitted eight thefts and two breaches of her CBO.

Among the shops she targeted throughout October were B&M, Asda and Tesco Express. Alcohol, food, medicine and toiletries from the stores in Featherstone, Normanton and Wakefield.

The court heard she had been a persistent shoplifter since 2003.

Mitigating on her behalf, Lily Wildman said: “There’s no doubt about it, her record is horrendous. If she does come back before the courts, she will keep receiving longer and longer prison sentences.”

He said she has been diagnosed with a personality disorder and psychosis, due to her long-term drug use, and had self-medicated using drugs.

Judge Neil Clark told Riley: “Your record for theft is as bad as I’ve ever seen. This is serious shoplifting.”

He jailed her for 28 months and the CBO was amended, banning her from Normanton and Wakefield centres. It will last until November 2028.

She is also banned from 27 named stories, including multiple Aldi, Asda and Sainsbury’s in Wakefield. Other include B&M, M&S, Morrisons, Primark, Boots Home Bargains and Superdrug.
