Woman fears Leeds rapist on the run will come back to kill her

Sex offender who callously called his victim “fresh meat” failed to turn up for trial

A terrified woman has told a court that she fears her rapist will kill her as he remains on the run.

Innocent Majoni was handed a 13-year jail term at Leeds Crown Court this week, but is still at large.

He was found guilty after trial of three counts of rape and two of sexual assault on the woman, whom he threatened to have deported unless she did as he wanted.

Reading out her victim impact statement during his sentencing hearing this week, she said: “I still do not feel safe.

“He forced himself on me. He threatened to go the Home Office. I came here for safety and ended up in this situation.

“He called me ‘fresh meat’ and it made me feel dirty. Emotionally, physically and mentally it has impacted me.

“If he can’t be found and brought to justice I will never feel safe and will always worry what he is doing to other women.

“Where is he? I’m still at risk. I’m traumatised by everything.”

The court heard that 47-year-old Majoni had “taken a shine” to the woman.

The judge, the Recorder of Leeds, Guy Kearl KC, said Majoni had “exploited her predicament”.

It took a number of years for the woman to report what he had done, only after she had settled her immigration status.

Majoni, formerly of Foundry Lane, Seacroft, then fled.

Handing down the sentence, Recorder Kearl also gave him a lifelong restraining order, making it a separate criminal offence if he were to approach her.
