Woman 'dragged onto field' in Middleton in serious attempted sexual assault

It happened on a field next to Newhall Road at 4.20am today.

The victim, who is in her twenties, reported being grabbed by a man and dragged onto the field, a police spokesman has confirmed.

She fought the man off and managed to run home.

Police have cordoned off a large area on Newhall Road as they carry out forensic investigations.

The victim is being supported by specialist officers from Leeds District Safeguarding Unit and enquiries are ongoing into the attempted serious sexual assault.

A nearby resident said: "There is a lot of activity on Manor Farm field.

"The field has been taped off by police and there are two helicopters circling the area."
