'Potty mouth' woman bit security guard at Leeds' St James's Hospital after dishing out racist abuse

She was also sentenced for burgling pal’s home

A woman abused a security guard and then bit him during a struggle, leaving him needing a Hepatitis vaccination.

Shannon Colgrave also admitted burgling the house of a friend and using her stolen bank card to buy goods.

She avoided jail at Leeds Crown Court after the judge heard she had been “engaging well” with probation.

Prosecutor Daisy Wrigley said Colgrave broke into her friend’s home in Birmingham in the middle of the night in September 2023.

Accompanied by a male, they took a black safe from the woman’s bedroom, containing £1,000 in cash and a debit card, which Colgrave later used to buy items in a convenience shop.

But while on bail, in the early hours of November 4 last year she had been in the multi-storey car park at the Bexley Wing at St James’s Hospital when she was asked to leave by security.

Colgrave, of Conference Road, Armley became abusive and aggressive, making racist comments.

A scuffle broke out and she bit the upper arm of the worker, breaking the skin.

He later required the vaccine.

Colgrave admitted burglary, fraud, ABH and racially-aggravated harassment.

No mitigation was offered after Judge Ray Singh said he would not lock her up.

He said: “She is engaging well. She is doing her level best.”

He gave her a two-year sentence, suspended for two years, and 18 rehabilitation days to complete.

Judge Singh told her: “You have an appalling list of [previous] convictions.

“You have a potty mouth on you and I hope you reflect on that.”
