West Yorkshire Police reveal amazing average 999 wait time for 2021 amid some ridiculous calls received

West Yorkshire Police has revealed its average 999 call wait time so far this year along with some ridiculous calls it has received.

999 callers have only had to wait four seconds on average when calling the emergency number so far in 2021.

When calling 101, callers have only had to wait an average of 69 seconds this year.

The West Yorkshire Police Contact Management Centre revealed these wait times on Twitter branding it a "great start to the year".

It said: "Worked out the average wait times so far this year.

"It is only four seconds on 999 and only 69 seconds on 101.

"Great start to the year!"

The team have also tweeted about some of the time-wasting calls they have received so far this year.

One caller rang 999 to ask if the barbers is open.

The team tweeted making the answer clear: "You cannot ring 999 to ask if the barbers is open #Not999"

The team also urged followers to "remember calling 999 is for emergencies only" as they told of when someone rang up to tell them a joke which "wasn't even funny."

They tweeted: "Please remember, calling 999 is for emergencies only.

"Don't ring up to tell us a joke.

"Especially when it's not even funny."

Another caller called 999 to say they had been robbed after a cash machine charged them to withdraw money and they were on the way to the bank at 3:15am to demand the money back.

The West Yorkshire Police Contact Management Centre team tweeted: "Don't ring 999 and say you've been robbed as a cash machine has charged you to withdraw money.

"Don't then say you're on your way to the bank to demand the money back, they aren't open at 3:15 in a morning."

One caller called 999 to complain their neighbour was putting rubbish in their bin.

The team tweeted: "You can't ring 999 to complain your neigbhour is putting rubbish in your bin #Not999"

Another caller rang 999 about a plumbing issue and then when given the correct advice, proceeded to abuse the person who answered the call.

The team tweeted: "If you have plumbing issues, then call a plumber.

"Do not ring 999 and then abuse us when we give you the correct advice #Not999."

One caller tried 101 to get them through to Cash Converters.

Again, the team made it clear that this was not possible in a tweet: "Ringing 101 doesn't get you through to Cash Converters"

More positively, one caller ended their appropriate emergency call by telling the team "thank you for everything you do, you are all stars and truly make a difference" which "made the team's day".

The West Yorkshire Police Contact Management Centre team tweeted: "Just had someone end their call saying 'thank you for everything you do, you are all stars and truly make a difference'.

"This had made our day alright."
