Police have been flooded with calls from motorists reporting a wheelbarrow on a motorway in Leeds.

The wheelbarrow was blocking the first lane of the M1 northbound carriageway, near Junction 42 at Lofthouse Interchange.

West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre first reported the incident at 9.39am on Friday.

The team tweeted: "Getting a large number of calls for a wheel barrow in the first lane of M1, northbound, just passed junction 42.

"Our log 426 refers. #DriveSafe."
