West Yorkshire Police arrest 250 for drink or drug driving in pre-Christmas December alone

250 people have been arrested for drink or drug driving in December before the Christmas period.

Those driving over the limit were arrested across West Yorkshire between December 1 and December 24.

The arrests are part of a National Police Chiefs' Council Winter Drink and Drug Drive campaign.

A total of 84 of the 250 arrests were made in the third week of the campaign, the week running up to Christmas.

48 of those were made for drink driving, 31 for drug driving and five for failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Last year, more than 450 arrests were made in December for drink and drug driving which was the highest amount in any other 2019 month.

A post on a West Yorkshire Police Facebook page said: "Last year we saw more than 450 arrests for drink and drug driving more than any other month in the year.

"In the first 24 days of December, a total of 250 people were arrested across West Yorkshire for drink or drug driving.

"Drink or drug driving can cost you your... licence, car, job, life

"Don't Drink or Drug Drive!"
