Police have issued a warning after seeing a rise in "sneak in" burglaries around East Leeds.

Officers from the Leeds East team said they have seen a "noticeable" increase in these types of crimes in Whinmoor and Seacroft.

They said the elder are being targeted.

The team said: "In the last week we have seen a noticeable increase in day time sneak in burglaries around the Whinmoor and Seacroft area.

"This appears to be an opportunist potentially targeting the elderly with small valuables stolen (handbags, mobiles etc).

"With the current COVID-19 lockdown most households will be occupied at all times, however this doesn’t prevent you from becoming a victim.

"Can we ensure we continue to secure our property and follow typical crime prevention advice.

"If you have an older member of the family currently self isolating can we please pass the message on to them in relation to keeping doors locked during the day.

"Times are tough enough for our vulnerable population without the stress and upset of becoming a victim of crime too."
