Warning issued to dog owners after reports of sheep attacks

Many people took to the hills on Thorpe Lane, Guiseley today to sledge and enjoy the snow.

However Georgie Hobson, who rents neighbouring field to the farmer's land, said sheep have been attacked in nearby field by dogs off the lead.

She told the Yorkshire Evening Post that it is the third time in the space of just eight months that a dog off the lead had attacked sheep.

Georgie warned that the farmer - who lives at a home around 20 miles away - will "shoot any dogs off the lead" near his sheep.

The farmer would be within his legal rights to protect his livestock.

Dog owners should take extra precautions with their dogs around livestock, with advice to keep them on a lead.

In a post on Facebook, Georgie said: "Does the concept of keeping your dog on a lead in a field of livestock confuse you.

"This act of pure selfishness has again caused distress and injury to our neighbours livestock.

"Livestock that are PREGNANT and could leave to the sheep aborting there unborn lambs.

"Given the current circumstances don’t you think farmers are under enough stress?

"The very people keeping the nation fed during this pandemic."

The dog owner was confronted during the attack by a member of the public, Georgie said.

She urged the person whose dog allegedly attacked the sheep to "come forward and own up"

Georgie added: "Remember, keep your dog on a lead around livestock."
