Violent Leeds ex chopped off woman's finger tip in door-slam altercation

A thug slammed the door on his partner, severing part of her finger before throwing her down the stairs.

Volatile Jason Williams was jailed at Leeds Crown Court after it was heard their relationship was peppered with violence and police call outs.

Williams admitted coercive control and GBH without intent, but only on the day he was due to stand trial.

He was jailed for more than three years.

Prosecutor Chloe Hudson said Williams and the woman began their relationship in 2020 but there were numerous 999 calls made.

The woman said it was good for the first 12 months but it then deteriorated due to his cannabis use.

He would turn violent and would assault and strangle her. He would then “wine and dine” her and promise to change before falling back into his usual behaviour.

He smashed numerous phones, accused her of cheating and was arrested twice, but twice broke bail conditions not to contact her.

Finally, on August 12 last year he came to her home and another argument erupted before he slammed an internal door, severing the tip of her middle finger.

He then pushed her down the stairs. She was eventually taken to hospital by ambulance.

She was initially reluctant to tell the police what had happened, but eventually named WIlliams.

Officers went to her house and found him hiding in a cupboard.

During his interview he denied the allegations and said she had injured herself while drunk.

Williams, of Windmill Close, Belle Isle, has 16 previous convictions for 23 offences, including disorderly behaviour, assaults on emergency workers and battery.

Mitigating, Andrew Petterson said it was a short-lived, impulsive assault.

He said there were many positive aspects about Williams as a father and that he was making progress in custody, enrolling in courses and remaining drug free.

Judge Ray Singh told WIlliams, who appeared over a video link from HMP Leeds: “You have, in the past, been a violent individual.

“You were persistently violent towards her, persistently controlling and persistently coercive.”

He said there was still an element of “victim blaming” from Williams, adding: “She is not the one to blame, you are.”

He jailed him for 38 months and gave him a 10-year restraining order.
