Two men charged after attempted car theft following Roundhay house burglary

Two men have been charged after allegedly attempting to steal a car following the burglary of a house in Roundhay where a car key was stolen.

Police officers were conducting extra patrols in the Roundhay area after the burglary when they received a call about two people 'acting suspiciously'.

They made their way to the area and a further call then reported that two men were inside a vehicle at the address where the key had been stolen and were trying to steal the car.

Officers spotted the men on the street and ran after them before detaining them.

Property from the burglary was found in their possession.

The men have since been charged and have been remanded to prison until their court trial.

A post on the West Yorkshire Police Leeds North East Facebook page said: "A fantastic job from the team at Leeds North East NPT.

"Officers were aware of a burglary in the Roundhay ward with a car key stolen and were conducting extra patrols.

"A call was received of two people acting suspiciously so police officers and PCSOs made their way in to the area.

"A further call reported that the two men were inside a vehicle at the address where the key had been stolen and were trying to steal the car.

"Officers arrived and spotted the two men on the street and after a chase on foot, the two were detained by police officers and PCSOs and property from the burglary was found in their possession.

"Both men have been charged and are now remanded to prison awaiting their court trial."
