Two men and a 14-year-old boy have been charged after riot police were attacked during two days of chaos in Halton Moor.

The trouble began on Saturday, November 7 when police were called to Kendal Drive to reports of youths damaging cars and houses.

Disorder continued after officers arrived, with objects being thrown at police and their vehicles.

A man and a woman officer were struck, but were not injured.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Oz Khan condemned the "lawless behaviour" and local patrols were increased in the area.

However, at about 7.30pm on Sunday, November 8, police vans were targeted with bricks and fireworks when a large crowd gathered around the junction of Rathmell Road and Ullswater Crescent.

Riot police were deployed to the area to disperse the group and make arrests.

Two hours later, at about 9.30pm, a member of the public’s car was set on fire in Kendal Drive.

Riot police were sent to the scene to support the fire service.

Firefighters extinguished the car and it was recovered by police.

Shortly before 11pm a garden fence at a house in Rathmell Road was set on fire.

Riot police were again sent to support the fire crews.

A 14-year-old male, who cannot be named due to his age, has been charged with three counts of assault relating to the incidents on Saturday, November 7.

He has also been charged with arson, two counts of criminal damage, and threats to commit criminal damage in relation to disorder in Ullswater Crescent, Halton Moor, on September 19, 2019.

He has also been charged with robbery in relation to an incident on July 19 this year.

Brett Hamilton, aged 18, of Wykebeck Avenue, Leeds, has been charged with arson and criminal damage in relation to disorder in Ullswater Crescent, Halton Moor, on September 19, 2019, during which a police crime scene investigator’s van was set on fire.

He has also been charged with robbery in relation to an incident on July 19 this year.

Hamilton and the 14-year-old have been released under investigation in relation to violent disorder on Saturday, November 7.

Mark Hargreaves, 48, of Ramshead Place, has been charged with violent disorder and assault on a police officer in relation to the incidents in Rathmell Road on Sunday, November 8.

All three are due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court on Tuesday, November 10.

Detectives are continuing to carry out enquiries into the incidents of disorder in Kendal Drive and Rathmell Road over the weekend and officers are continuing to maintain a presence in the area to reassure residents.
