A thug who attacked his partner on the stairs leaving her with a broken leg, later threatened to burn down her house and slit her throat.

Stuart Gray also punched the woman to the face during another violent episode, Leeds Crown Court heard.

The 49-year-old admitted GBH without intent, ABH and making threats to kill.

The court heard they had been in a relationship since 2021, but his heavy drinking took its toll.

Prosecutor Nathan Davis said he was also jealous and possessive.

In December 2022 he turned violent during an argument, accusing her of cheating.

She then told him she was going to bed and began to make her way upstairs.

But Gray then grabbed her leg after following her, causing her to fall heavily down the stairs.

Despite her obvious pain, he refused to phone for an ambulance. But after a night of discomfort, Gray relented and took her to Pinderfields.

An x-ray showed a fracture to the top of her thigh bone / hip, that required surgery to insert a plate and screws.

However, she did not tell hospital staff what had happened.

The resumed their relationship, but Gray became violent again in May 2023 during another argument.

This time, she “pre-empted” being struck and hit him first, but it made him more angry and he lashed out, punching her to the face and causing her nose to bleed.

It was her daughter who later contacted police, but the victim declined to make a statement.

Gray and the woman seperated but at the end of 2024 he contacted her, wanting to reconcile.

They met in January this year, but she told him she did not wish to be a relationship with him which he “struggled” with, Mr Davis said.

In June he began bombarding her with messages while he was drunk and angry.

He made threats to burn her home down and even slit her throat.

The police were called and Gray, of Tanshelf Drive, Pontefract, was arrested.

He appeared in court over a video link from HMP Leeds where he was being held on remand.

He has 32 previous convictions for 76 offences.

Mitigating, Benjamin Bell said that due to personal issues, Gray had turned to drink which underpinned his offending.

He said he had been using his time wisely while on remand and was working as a wing cleaner.

Judge Alex Menary said that Gray had a history of offending linked to drink and substance abuse.

He jailed him for 56 months and gave him an indefinite-length restraining order to keep him away from his former partner.
