The latest Ministry of Justice figures, relating to the 12 months ending March 2019, show there were 794 proven crimes committed by children in Leeds during the year. The Youth Justice System (YJS) in England and Wales works to prevent offending and reoffending by children and releases these figures annually. Across England and Wales, the report found that 21,700 children were cautioned or sentenced, a 19 per cent drop from the previous year. The reoffending rate has also decreased by 2.5 per cent and now stands at 38.4 per cent of children and young people. These are the most common crimes committed by children aged 10 to 17 in Leeds during the 2018/19 financial year, where children received a warning or were sentenced.
