A TEENAGE burglar who was part of a gang targeting affluent properties in Leeds in order to steal high powered cars has been locked up.

Jordan Faulding, 19, was caught after residents in an area of Alwoodley had been placed on high alert by police after a prowlers had been caught on camera watching properties.

Leeds Crown Court heard a resident on Wike Ridge Avenue believed his home was about to be burgled after he saw CCTV footage of men in his garden on July 20 this year.

Giles Grant, prosecuting, said the resident took the precaution of removing high values items from his property, including the key to a £40,000 Mercedes parked outside. Three men returned to the same property the next day while the owner was out. The gang smashed a window before searching the house but were only able to find a bag of loose change. Police arrested Faulding a short distance from the house. He was in possession of cannabis. Faulding, of Thackray Road, Bradford, pleaded guilty to burglary and possessing cannabis. The court heard Faulding had appeared in court for sentence two months before the incident for handling stolen goods, attempted burglary and going equipped for burglary. The offences related to targeting properties in Guiseley and Calverley.

On that occasion the judge agreed to defer sentence for six months to see if Faulding could stay out of trouble.

Simon Batiste, mitigating, said his client now accepted that a custodial sentence was inevitable. Faulding was sent to a Young Offenders Institution for 12 months. Judge James Spencer, QC, said: “I deferred sentence last time because I believed you were not basically a bad lad.

“However, you have demonstrated that you are because since I deferred sentence you were at it again.”
