Swarcliffe resident sees masked men speed off in car after incident at Co-op

A witness has described the moment that masked men sped off from a Co-op in Swarcliffe after a robbery involving a cash transit van.

Police have confirmed that a security guard carrying a cashbox was confronted and punched in the face, before the cashbox was stolen.

A nearby resident, who did not wish to be named, witnessed a car speeding off from the store at about 2pm with three masked men inside.

He said: "My dog walker had just dropped the dog and as I opened the door I heard the car screech off.

"There were two or three guys wearing balaclavas or face masks.

"The security guards looked shocked.

"Nobody looked injured and the store reacted as they should - closed immediately and waited on police. I haven't seen ambulances."
