Domestic abuse survivor Bethany Marchant shares her story in Survivors with Denise Welch.

The 28-year-old's actions were captured on secret cameras that he had installed in his Castleford home as part of his controlling behaviour towards Ms Marchant.

She could be heard screaming and begging Carr to end the ordeal during footage shown to Leeds Crown Court when he was handed an extended prison sentence of 11 years and three months in September 2019.

Ms Marchant eventually persuaded Carr to take her to the hospital but he threatened to drive the car into a reservoir. The police arrived at this point, alerted by a neighbour who had heard the screams.

Speaking during the second episode of Survivors with Denise Welch, she says: "I remember going down to the bottom of the stairs. Evil just came through his eyes… I just remember him glaring at me. I remember going round the house doors were locked then it started getting physical."

Survivors with Denise Welch is airing on the Crime+Investigation channel.

She talks to Welch about what was going through her mind during the assault, how she found the inner strength to survive and face her attacker in court, and how the devastating turn of events has changed her life.

Ms Marchant is now an activist supporting Clare's Law – the right of women and men at risk of domestic violence to know if their partner has a history of serial violent abuse.

The episode also features contributions from her aunt Nikki, psychologist Dr Linda Papapdopoulos and Melanie Simpson QC.

Survivors with Denise Welch premieres on the Crime+Investigation channel, available via Amazon Prime and Apple TV, tonight at 9pm.

The episode featuring Ms Marchant will air on Monday April 26 at 9pm, before being available for 30 days on catch up.
