Violent man had only been released from prison for attacking woman

A thug made increasingly sickening threats that his ex partner telling her: “You have seen nothing yet”.

Nicholas Wilkinson was told by a judge at Leeds Crown Court that he was “clearly racked with insecurity and jealousy”.

The 26-year-old was previously jailed for strangling the woman, but after his release moved back in with her, only for him to revert to his old ways.

Wilkinson had been in an “on/off” relationship with the victim for around four years.

He was released from his 21-month sentence for strangling her in November last year.

He was meant to be living with his mother, but moved in with his ex partner again.

By February she wanted him to leave. When he refused, she moved out, prosecutor John Hobley said.

Over a period of around 10 days in March, he continuously rang her in the early hours and bombard her with messages. At one point he rang her upwards of 50 times a day.

He made threats to stab her, set fire to her house and to hurt her family.

He chillingly warned her: “If you thought it was bad last time you have seen nothing yet.”

Wilkinson then began to pester the woman for money. When she threatened to tell the police, he told her he would contact social services about her children.

Living in fear, she rang the police and homeless Wilkinson was arrested.

He has five previous convictions for nine offences. Appearing in court this week over a video link from HMP Leeds, he admitted making threats to kill and threats to damage property.

Mitigating, Haroon Khattak said at the time of the initial phone call to his ex, his car had been set on fire.

He said that Wilkinson was “emotionally charged in the heat of the moment” as his car burned.

He said Wilkinson had also been using crack cocaine.

Mr Khattak said since being held on remand, Wilkinson had taken numerous courses adding: “He has demonstrated determination not to re-offend.

“He has made a genuine effort to rehabilitate himself. There is remorse in this relatively young man.”

Judge Christopher Batty told Wilkinson: “You have already built up quite a poor record, particularly for offences of violence.

“You are clearly racked with insecurity and jealousy.

“You seek to impose control and constantly questioned where she was and with whom she could speak to.”

He said he sent the “most appalling messages” and added: “What is clear from the detail into which you went in making these threats, you wanted her to believe that you were going to carry them out.

“The fear and distress that causes it what makes this very serious. It just adds to the overall sense of dread and fear.”

He jailed Wilkinson for 31 months, and gave him a 10-year restraining order to keep him away from his ex.
