His home was searched and more cash was found in his bedroom.

Ian Anderson, mitigating, said Ahmed committed the offence when he was struggling financially.

The barrister said Ahmed had been told he would be working 40 hours per week when he started with the firm but his hours were reduced.

Mr Anderson said his client sometimes only worked two hours a day and he was spending a lot of money on petrol as he faced a 60-mile round trip to work.

He said added: "Very sadly, the temptation to top that up became too much for him."

Ahmed was given a four-month sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work.
