The man assaulted her – causing injuries to her hand and stomach – before stealing items of jewellery.

The incident happened just after 9,30pm on Friday June 30, but police only released details today.

The suspect is described as thin man who was more than 6ft tall. He spoke with an Eastern European accent.

Detective Constable Holly Speight, of Wakefield District CID, said: “Thankfully the victim wasn’t seriously injured but nonetheless this incident has understandably left her extremely shaken. She has been able to provide a description of the suspect which has been used to put together an e-fit image. I would urge anyone who believes that they recognise the man pictured to please get in touch.

“We are also appealing to anyone who was in the area who may have witnessed any part of this offence to make contact. The victim recalls seeing a small silver vehicle in the area following this incident and it is possible that the driver or any occupants may have seen the suspect before or after this offence.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Wakefield District CID via 101 or pass information anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
