Red-faced defendant apologises for breaking wind during Leeds Crown Court hearing

An apologetic defendant was left red faced after loudly breaking wind during a hearing at Leeds Crown Court this week.

The 34-year-old was due to be sentenced for a series of shoplifting offences and appeared over a video link from HMP Leeds, where he was being held on remand.

The case was adjourned for a probation report to be completed and he is due to appear again next month.

But part way through the hearing on Monday morning, his embarrassing flatulence broke the momentary silence in the court.

He immediately apologised and put his head in his hands in disbelief.

Neither the judge, the prosecution or the defence-counsel barrister reacted to the obvious noise over the link.

The defendant was remanded back into custody for his pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Court lists suggest he is facing multiple offences related to stealing from retail outlets in Pontefract between August and October of last year.
