Leeds rapist jailed for 13 years told by victim: 'You have been exposed for what you are'

Brave woman says she can now move on from horrific experience

A convicted rapist has been handed a lengthy jail term, with his victim telling him he has finally been “exposed”.

Keith Whitaker was given the 13-year term this week following a trial at Leeds Crown Court in October.

He was found guilty of attacking the woman while she was “incapacitated”.

The 41-year-old, of Monkswood Hill, Seacroft, appeared in court for his sentencing over a video link from HMP Doncaster.

The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said Whitaker’s actions had a “profound and lasting impact” on her.

In a victim impact statement, read to the court by prosecutor Craig Lowe, she added: “I want to thank the jury for believing me.

“I want to move on, I deserve happiness, not just the ability to pretend I’m okay.

“I want to heal and be the best version of myself.

“You have been exposed to the court and your family and friends what you are.”

Mitigating Rachel Faux said Whitaker had suffered neglect and trauma as a child, but conceded that a lengthy sentence in this case was “inevitable”.

Handing him his sentence, Judge Mushtaq Khokhar told him: “Your conduct needs to change and you need help.”

Whitaker was put on the sex offender register for life.

Speaking after sentencing, Detective Constable Jodie Worsley, the officer in the case, said: “From the outset, the victim has shown remarkable resilience. I have worked closely with her and seen first‑hand the effort it has taken for her to stay engaged with the investigation, the trial process, and now sentencing.

“Her willingness to continue, despite the emotional toll and the wait for justice, is a testament to her strength.

“She has consistently prioritised safeguarding other women and accountability, even when it has been difficult for her personally.

“It is my hope that, following the outcome, she is able to focus on her recovery and move forward with her life, building the safer and more positive future she deserves.”
