Paul Mann, 62, had spent more than £500 on lights to surround property in time for the festive season - which have proved to be very popular.

However, he was disgusted to discover that wires had been ripped out from a strip of lights on his front railings - allegedly by a group of youths caught on CCTV passing his home on Tyersal Court just seconds before.

"Of course I do like having Christmas lights up.

"But I also do it for the community of Tyersal and people enjoy them.

"It's not a cheap exercise.

"Well tonight three people (I am being polite) came past at 5pm and 49 seconds later the lights went off.

"Coincidence I think not.

"The wires clearly ripped out.

"Well that's going to cost me £30 to replace.

"Watch the video and notice the lights at the front on the railings."

The video footage supplied to the Yorkshire Evening Post shows a trio of youths pass the home with all of the lights working as intended.

However, less than a minute later the lights go out at the front railing of Paul's home.

He discovered the wire had been pulled out.

Paul's neighbours and other Tyersal residents shared their dismay at the vandalism.

One said: "Some people just can't see anything nice."
