The police force asked car owners to take note of additional security measures they can take to help keep their vehicle safe.

These include:

• Press the lock button on your fob twice. In doing so the second time, it activates the alarm and other electrical safety measures

• Consider a faraday (signal blocking) pouch

• Reintroduce a steering wheel lock to your vehicle, the lock cannot be compromised via technology

• Option - Contact your local dealership or an auto electrician to lock or relocate the OBD port in your vehicle. You can also purchase a Sold Secure tested OBD port guard/cover

• If possible, learn how to turn off the fob’s wireless signal. Your car manual may tell you how to do this or contact your manufacturer if it does not

• There are products on the market that can help stop this kind of crime. A4615 Cobra Alarm includes an Automatic Drive recognition card. If the card is not present with the key the car will immobilise and alarms will start. Thatcham approved.
