Both riders were issued with section 59 warnings and advised to push their bikes out of the field and back home.

They were warned not to ride the quad bikes and police said their colleagues were on the other side of the woods and would be watching.

However, police said the riders made a 'school boy error' and decided to attempt to ride back home.

They will now be summoned to court for various driving offences, police said.

The force said: "They obviously did not believe us and as soon as they were out of sight they decided to ride back home (school boy error).

"They soon regretted their decision when we turned up at their house, seized the bikes and reported them for driving offences.

"A quad bike was also seized in the woods who had a very small child as a passenger!!!

"The rider who was very vocal will soon be silenced when they attend court for various driving offences."
