The footage then shows the victim walking along Monk Bridge Road towards the junction with Moor Road and Shaw Lane, being followed by what is believed to be the same person.

Detective Inspector Carl Morrison, of Leeds District CID, said: “We are still working to establish the motive for this attack as it appears there was nothing said to the victim or any demands made for his property.

“The CCTV footage we have recovered so far shows the victim being followed by a suspect in the moments leading up to him being attacked. It also shows that person heading the opposite way a short time before the incident.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who saw the suspect in the area or who has any other information that could assist the investigation.

“We are keeping an open mind as to why the victim has been attacked in the street like this but we recognise the understandable concern it may cause in the community.
