Police officer knocked unconscious by two Leeds women after arrest for making threats on Pudsey fields

A police officer was knocked unconscious after arresting a 43-year-old woman for making threats on a field in Pudsey.

At 4.35pm on Sunday (Jan 5) police were called to a report of a woman making threats at fields off Sycamore Chase, in Pudsey.

Officers attended and identified the suspect, a 43-year-old woman.

She was accompanied to her home nearby to return dogs she had been walking and was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

While at the address, the two officers were assaulted and additional units responded to assist them.

One officer was knocked unconscious during the incident and was taken to hospital to be checked over before retiring from duty, police said.

The woman and a 19-year-old woman were each arrested on suspicion of two offences of assaulting an emergency worker.

They were both later released under investigation and enquiries into the incidents are ongoing.

Appropriate support has been put in place with regard to the welfare of the officers involved.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "West Yorkshire Police condemns any assaults on its staff and treats all such incidents very seriously.

"The Force is continuing to campaign for the toughest possible penalties to be applied to those who commit offences against its staff and other emergency workers as they work to protect the public and keep communities safe."
