Police officer bitten and punched in the face and two others injured as man and woman arrested in Morley

A police officer attending a domestic incident was bitten on the arm and punched in the face in Morley on Sunday.

At 7.13pm last night (January 19) police were called to reports of a domestic incident in Glen Road, Morley.

An officer who attended was assaulted by a male at the scene, including being bitten on the arm, punched in the face, and poked in the eye, police said.

Emergency assistance was requested and additional units responded.

Incapacitant spray was used to arrest a 55-year-old man on suspicion of assault and threatening to commit damage, and a 43-year-old woman on suspicion of obstructing officers in the execution of their duty.

Both remain in custody, police confirmed.

The officer was treated at hospital and later released.

Two other officers also received minor injuries during the incident.

Appropriate support has been put in place with regard to the welfare of the officer assaulted, police said.

"The Force is continuing to campaign for the toughest possible penalties to be applied to those who commit offences against its staff and other emergency workers as they work to protect the public and keep communities safe."
