A dog handling team in West Yorkshire were rammed by a suspect's vehicle as they tried to escape the officers.

But the aggressive slam into the police vehicle was in vain, as the driver of the offending car then tried to make off on foot, before the police set the dogs on them.

WYP dogs Monty and Duke, along with the police helicopter (NPAS), then chased down the driver and made the arrest.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Team2 dog team Monty & Duke were rammed by a vehicle trying to evade the Police in the early hours. The offending driver bailed and was located by PD Monty close by. Team work with NPAS."

It wasn't the only incident that the helicopter was called in to assist with.

The NPAs Carr Gate also helped track down offenders involved in a rural crime and made chase for a 'cross border pursuit' involving suspected stolen property on Thursday night/Friday morning.

A spokesman for NPAS said: "A busy night for NPAS Carr Gate, assisted in a vehicle stop, located offenders for rural crime and a cross border pursuit resulting in arrests and property recovered."
