Police called out after Clapgate primary school staff report van - official statement

Police were called out to a Leeds primary school this morning after staff reported a van.

At 9.28am on Friday (July 10) police were contacted by staff at Clapgate Primary School, Belle Isle.

Two pupils had reported an incident involving a van on Sharp Lane, Middleton, as they walked to school.

A police officer attended to carry out enquiries.

The officer spoke to the children and the incident is not being treated as suspicious, police confirmed.

Police said the force are aware of speculation on social media in relation to this incident and would ask people to exercise caution about what information they post.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "At 9.28am today (10/7) police were contacted by staff at Clapgate Primary School, in Belle Isle, about two pupils reporting what they felt was a suspicious incident involving a van in Sharp Lane, Middleton, as they walked to school.

"An officer attended and carried out enquiries in the area and spoke to the children and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

"We are aware of speculation on social media in relation to this incident and we would ask people to exercise caution about what information they post."
